Meta Muse in India: What It Means for Export Brands

Key Takeaways
- Meta Muse is a personal AI agent that books, buys, fills forms and sends emails for its user, with approval before sensitive actions.
- As of 14 October 2026, Meta Muse is available only in the US and Canada; Meta has announced no India date or waitlist.
- Indian exporters selling to the US are already exposed to Muse, because it shops from Meta’s catalog and Shopify stores.
- Muse favours well-known brands that sell direct, and only catalog products with agentic checkout can be bought inside the chat.
- Direct checkout inside Muse does not fire Google Analytics or browser pixels, so attribution must be planned at order level.
- When Muse reaches India, WhatsApp is the most likely front door, and Muse for Small Business could reshape how D2C founders run ads and stores.
Your next American buyer may never visit your website. Their agent will.
Meta Muse in India is not available yet. Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent, launched on 8 September 2026, that plans and completes tasks for its user: booking travel, filling forms, comparing products and checking out. It is live only in the US and Canada, and Meta has named no India date. For Indian export brands, though, the more urgent fact is that their US buyers already shop with it.
Last checked: 14 October 2026. This post will be updated when Meta announces new countries.
That second point is the reason this post exists. Most coverage of Meta Muse in India stops at “not launched yet.” For a Banarasi silk label, a handicraft atelier or a Bhadohi carpet exporter with American customers, the launch that matters has already happened. The India launch is the second chapter.
Which “Muse”? Spark, Image, the agent and Muse for Small Business
Meta now uses the Muse name for several products, and search results mix them freely. Here is the short map.
- Muse Spark is the model family built by Meta Superintelligence Labs. It powers the Meta AI app and the agent. Version 1.3 is the current model behind Muse.
- Muse Image is Meta’s image model, available inside Meta AI. It handles edits, legible text inside images and product-led room redesigns.
- Muse is the personal agent, with its own app, web version and WhatsApp access. This is the product this post is about.
- Muse for Small Business is not a separate app. It is a set of business skills and connectors added to Muse on 29 September 2026.
- Muse Charm is a wearable device. Its India page currently reads “Not yet available in your region.”
When someone in India says they “use Meta AI on WhatsApp,” they are using an assistant that answers questions. Muse is the step beyond: it acts.
Is Meta Muse available in India?
No. Muse launched in the US on 8 September 2026 and in Canada on 18 September 2026. Meta has named no third country, no waitlist and no India date. Meta’s chief AI officer said at Connect on 23 September that Muse will reach more countries, without a list or timeline.
Three practical points follow:
- The app is not listed on the Indian App Store or Google Play. Store availability follows the account’s region.
- VPN workarounds are a poor idea. Meta’s terms require users to be physically in a supported country, and Muse bills through US app stores. Using a VPN risks suspension of the linked Meta account, which for most exporters also means Instagram and Facebook.
- The model is reachable, the agent is not. Developers can test Muse Spark through Meta’s Model API and third-party routers, but that gives access to the model, not the agent that browses, books and buys.
Any article quoting an exact India launch date is speculating. Treat it that way.
What Meta Muse can do
Meta’s official launch announcement describes Muse as a secure, private personal agent that proactively helps people meet their goals. In practice, it can:
- Send and draft emails, manage calendars and summarise conversations
- Book travel and appointments
- Open a browser, fill in forms and negotiate on the user’s behalf, such as asking for a bill reduction
- Research products across sites and complete a purchase
- Keep working in the background after the app is closed
- Remember details the user mentioned once and suggest ideas without being asked

How Muse keeps actions in check
Muse runs in its own cloud computer, called Muse Secure VM, which holds the agent and the user’s data. A separate agent, Sentinel, reviews what Muse tries to do on the internet and can block an action or ask the user for approval. Users choose which services Muse can see, whether it can only read or also act, and can opt out of having their interactions used to train Meta’s models. Meta also says Muse conversations are not shared with its advertising systems.
For payments, Muse can check out with Stripe’s Link and can generate single-use card details so the merchant never sees the real card. Muse is free with usage limits; launch reporting put the paid tiers at around $20 and $100 a month, though Meta has not published Indian pricing.
The adoption numbers are notable. Muse recorded about 2.8 million downloads in its first two weeks and topped free-app charts in the US and Canada (Source: Sensor Tower via Reuters, 2026).

Why Meta Muse in India matters to exporters before it launches
If you sell to the US, Muse is already one of your shoppers. Four mechanics deserve a founder’s attention.
1. The catalog decides who gets seen
Muse searches Meta’s product catalog and, through Shopify’s Agentic Storefronts, the Shopify Catalog. In a 50-prompt test, Meta’s catalog supplied about 95% of candidate products and won roughly a third of the final recommendation slots (Source: Profound via PPC Land, 2026). If your products are not in that catalog, the agent is far less likely to consider them.
2. Known, direct brands rank first
According to PPC Land’s analysis of Muse’s shopping instructions, the agent is told to place well-known merchants in its top picks and to favour brands that sell direct over resellers. Smaller brands still appear, but lower. For heritage labels that have relied on marketplaces and wholesalers, this is a strong argument for building a named direct channel. I made the same case in growing a Banarasi saree business without marketplaces.
3. Checkout can happen inside Meta
Catalog products flagged for agentic checkout can be bought without the shopper leaving Muse. Shopify merchants control this separately: you can keep catalog access on and direct checkout off. Direct checkout currently requires selling to US customers, which most of our exporters already do.
4. Your analytics may not see the sale
Google Analytics and browser pixels do not fire in Meta’s direct checkout. A sale can arrive with no session, no landing page and no ad click in your reports. Order-level tracking inside Shopify becomes the record of truth.
There is one counterweight. Amazon blocked Muse from shopping on its site, saying the agent did not identify itself and appeared to store login credentials, which Meta denies. Agent access to marketplaces is still contested, which is one more reason a brand-owned store matters.
What Muse could do when it launches in India
Nothing in this section is announced. It is my reading of what the US product suggests, applied to the Indian market.
WhatsApp becomes the front door. Meta has said India is its largest market for Meta AI usage, with especially strong engagement on WhatsApp (Source: Meta Q2 earnings call, 2024). Muse already works inside WhatsApp in the US. In India, a shopper asking WhatsApp to “find a Banarasi tissue saree under ₹25,000 that arrives before Diwali” is the most plausible first use case.
Muse for Small Business reaches Indian D2C founders. Meta says roughly one in three early Muse users has connected it to a business account (Source: Meta via Axios, 2026). An Indian founder could ask Muse to review last month’s Meta ads, Shopify sales and Instagram engagement, then draft next week’s campaign. As TechCrunch reported, the agent learns what a business sells, how its brand sounds and what customers ask most. That is useful, and it also means handing one platform your revenue, margins and customer lists, a trade-off every founder should make deliberately.
Three prerequisites stand in the way. These are my assessment, not Meta’s stated reasons:
- Payments. Muse checks out through Stripe’s Link and Shop Pay, built for US cards. India runs on UPI, which would need its own agent-payment path.
- Data protection. An agent that reads email, calendars and business records will need to satisfy India’s data-protection rules before launch.
- Language. Indian shoppers search in Hindi, Hinglish and regional languages; a useful agent must buy fluently in all of them.
The Muse-readiness checklist for Indian export brands
Most of this is work you should do anyway for visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Muse simply raises the stakes.
- Review your Shopify Agentic channel. Go to Sales channels, then Agentic. Decide deliberately on catalog access and on direct checkout.
- Complete every product attribute. Weave type, fibre, zari type, origin, GI tag, dimensions, weight and care. Agents compare attributes, not adjectives.
- Use real product photography. Muse discards placeholder images and logos. Show the actual piece.
- Keep price and stock accurate. Agents skip listings that look out of range or unavailable.
- State shipping and returns plainly. US delivery times, duties and return terms should be machine-readable on the product page.
- Build your brand name. Known direct brands rank first; reviews, press and consistent naming all help.
- Track orders, not sessions. Set up Shopify order reports by channel so Muse sales are visible even when pixels are silent.
- Keep Meta assets clean. An organised Instagram professional account, Facebook Page and ad account are what Muse for Small Business will read first.
If your store needs this groundwork, Shopify consulting for exporters is where I usually begin with founders.

A note on selling to an agent
Over more than a decade of selling Banarasi sarees to buyers abroad, the hardest part has rarely been language. It has been translating value. A product page that moves a buyer in Varanasi often says too little to a buyer in New Jersey. The weave, the zari, the hours on the loom are obvious to us and invisible to them.
An agent is an even more literal buyer. It does not feel the drape or respond to a beautiful photograph the way a person does. It reads attributes, prices, availability and reputation, then decides. The brands that do well will be the ones that have made their craft legible: named techniques, verifiable origin, honest specifications. That has always been the core of export brand positioning. Muse just removes the margin for vagueness.

Frequently asked questions
No. As of 14 October 2026, Meta Muse is available only in the United States and Canada, to users aged 18 and over. Meta has not announced an India launch date or a waitlist. Indian users can continue to use Meta AI on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, which answers questions but does not carry out tasks the way Muse does. Exporters selling to the US should still prepare now, because their American buyers already have access.
Meta has not announced a date. Its chief AI officer said in September 2026 that Muse will reach more countries, without naming them. Given that India is Meta’s largest market for Meta AI usage, it is a likely future market, but any specific date circulating online should be treated as speculation until Meta’s newsroom confirms it. Brands should prepare their product data now rather than wait for a date.
Meta AI is an assistant that answers questions and generates text and images inside Meta’s apps. Meta Muse is an agent that acts: it can browse websites, fill forms, send emails, book travel and complete purchases on the user’s behalf. Muse asks for approval before sensitive actions, such as sending a message or spending money. Meta AI is free and available in India today; Muse is currently limited to the US and Canada.
It is not advisable. Meta’s terms require users to be physically located in a supported country, and Muse is billed through US app stores. Using a VPN to access it risks suspension of the linked Meta account, which for a business could also affect its Instagram and Facebook presence. Waiting for an official launch is the safer route. Meanwhile, Meta AI on WhatsApp covers basic questions and image generation.
Not yet. In the US and Canada, users can message Muse directly inside WhatsApp, as they would a contact. That integration follows Muse’s country rollout, so it is not active in India. Indian WhatsApp users currently have access to Meta AI, which is a separate and less capable assistant. When Muse launches in India, WhatsApp is likely to be one of its main entry points, given how heavily Indians already use Meta AI there.
Muse is free with usage limits, and Meta offers paid subscription plans for heavier use. Launch reporting placed the paid tiers at around $20 and $100 a month in the US. Muse for Small Business uses the same plans. Meta has not published any Indian pricing, which will depend on when and how it launches here. Treat the US figures as indicative only.
Yes, if they sell to US customers. Shopify has added Meta as a channel in its Agentic Storefronts, so products in the Shopify Catalog can be discovered by Muse. Direct checkout inside Muse currently requires selling to the US and meeting Shopify’s eligibility rules. Merchants can allow catalog discovery while keeping checkout on their own store. Those orders then flow through the usual Shopify order reports.
Start with product data: complete attributes, real photographs, accurate prices, stock and shipping terms. Review Shopify’s Agentic channel settings and decide on direct checkout. Set up order-level tracking, because pixels do not fire in Meta’s direct checkout. Finally, invest in a recognisable direct brand, since Muse ranks well-known direct sellers first. Most of this work also improves visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
